1937 16-foot Special Race Boat
This boat is also a full restoration. Everything has been restored back to the original condition. Great detail has been taken to document everything to be the same as it was the day it left the Chris-Craft factory.

We replaced the bottom on this boat, and with so many boats (the majority) there was extensive frame replacement. If any frames are questionable they get replaced. I’ve replaced the bottom back to how it was done originally except the canvas and white lead filler has been subsituted with 3M 5200.

We are in the process of wrapping this restoration up, and look forward to seeing it on Lake Okoboji, IA this summer. There are a couple of interesting things we did with this boat, first was to replace the bottom. I have come up with an interesting alternative to bottom replacement which involves using the old bottom as a mold and “vacuum bagging” a new bottom over the old. When the new bottom is complete it is removed as one monolithic piece. The old bottom is then removed and the new one installed.
The other interesting thing we did on this boat was to replace the vinyl front deck with mahogany. Look close at the photos, there are no screws.
